In Concatenations, the composition is based on a rhythm of strokes set at 60° angles. I was particularly interested in developing a drawing tool through which new forms and structures become visible through overlapping. The negative forms increasingly move to the foreground, even though they are not actively created but emerge through the arrangement and intersection of the applied forms. This principle becomes particularly apparent when viewed from a distance.
This interplay between surface and space is a central element of my work. The resulting overlaps also create new secondary colours, which emerge exclusively through the interaction of the individual layers and give the work an additional visual depth. The different levels of perception — from the individual brushstrokes to the overall form perceived from a distance — play an important role. Under LAB, I explore these principles and the process behind my work in greater detail.
